...You know, it’s an aphorism, a maxim: short, pithy words expressing a general truth. Useful words to live, but not die, by. But it’s also a play on words.

I took Haste makes waste and the provincial idiom There’s no accounting for taste, mashed them up proper, and – wham-presto – came up with the above wry remark.

You see, people make snap judgements – the so-called first impression – and seem attached to the point of irrationality in acting upon and defending them. E.g.: A mom serves overcooked brussels sprouts to a child; that child hates brussels sprouts for a loooooong time. What a waste of such delicious nourishment on the menu!

These “gut feelings” must come from one nauseated society, which perhaps bespeaks all the biliousness. “Why don’t you like it?” “I don’t know. It sucks, I hate it!”

Trying to base our feelings of wellness and success on the feedback of such curt and dyspeptic people is a total waste of consciousness. Unless you’re interested in the core problems – then make sure you bring a roto-rooter!

The play on word, of course, is that when we “taste” we make “waste”. It either comes out one end or the other – depending on how well we ruminate and digest our experiences! ;)

@Xeno : i wonder how you would have reacted if you had suffered what i did with Janking and her alikes...

The only thing that I might change would be the Q. You could extend the tail horizontally instead of vertically. I love the P, a, w, e, and the numbers.

@Xenophilius: So you weren't there... I'm happy for you that you didn't witness this miserable event in FS some months ago. I received so much unjustified personal hate from this person (and i think it was the 3rd time in one year, but this time it went really far), that it still hurts me a bit when i evoke it. This was certainly not the only reason why i finally decided to unshare my works, take some distance from FS and redevelop elsewhere from zero a new, more mature portfolio, but it surely helped... For now, i work better like this, but when i have achieved (or so) this portfolio which demands extreme concentration, maybe i'll reconsider a more effective FS participation, even if it still makes me a little sad to see how Meek doesn't recognize nor support my work as i think it would deserves it for its creativity and needs it because it is unusual and not formatted in traditional styles...
Sorry Xeno for this input but you asked... you can hide now if you want this comment which has nothing to do with your font. It was just that your deception about the 4 reminded me this bad week (it was unfinishable), and that there is room to hurt much more on FS. (i was treated like a mentally retarded, brain damaged, a 5 year old child could do better than me in 5 mn when some of my works took more than 1 year of hard work, the same trial finally that the nazis made to the "degenerated artists" which were the most creative and innovative of their time and refused the "academic dictature" to open new ways, new doors...

@xeno: Yeah, you nailed it. If someone has something heartfelt or intelligent to offer – even if it rings one’s bell as an eviscerating critique – there may be some great value in chewing on it for a minute. But voting with a number (high or low), lobbing hateful and denigrating sentiments – or even high but empty, cotton-candy praise – I think these do not merit more than a second’s thought.

Here’s another one: Haters gonna HATE! But don’t ever let ’em steal your smile. Peace.

One possible way to mitigate against trolling votes would be to remove anonymity ... votes could be accompanied by an auto-generated Comment on the following lines:

P2pnut rated xe Bard 10

xyz rated xe Bard 4

Trolls don't seem to like the light of day and this might reduce such activity.

With regard to the traumatic events experienced by neurone error I would just like to add my final thought (a variation on will.i.ૐ's far more succinct phrase above). At the end of the day ne still retains his talent, skills and artistic integrity; janking retains nothing but the opprobrium that she probably has to face in the real (offline) world as well.

As far as I know Snap judge – as in one who judges “snappishly” – is a newly coined phrase on your part, Xeno. No klepto. And I smiled reading it.

Snap Judge is very good, but I think it gives trolls too much machismo and badass credential (like some kinda Samurai Stallone). So how about Snap Judies (or Snap Janes to emphasize their anonymity)?

Then we have the Snap Wagon which is the whole milieu of trolling – but also the coterie of high and mighty design professionals who see it their role to quickly and anonymously downvote “overrated” fontstructions without taking their valuable time to lend any informed commentary on how a given design could be improved.

Son, get off your high horse and hop out the back of that Snap Wagon!

@p2pnut: Meek has emphasized that he will keep voting anonymous as publishing voting history will likely reduce the number of total votes in the system – which I think is actually your point. You see the positive side of this, but he sees the negative. The idea, briefly, is that the voting system works to eliminate aberrant votes as long as it accumulates a larger and larger body of votes. So meek doesn’t want raise the barrier to voting anymore than the requirement of having a user account.

@meek: Publishing votes is an unlikely scenario (even considering the low total quantity of votes these days). How about publishing “favorites” in (or above) the comment stream? We can go to every fontstructor’s page and browse their favorites – so they are already published – but it is otherwise an overly difficult to track down who has favorited what. I think this is useful and valuable information for creators who publish their works. Also, publishing “favs” or “likes” at the top of comment streams is a common expectation for some other social networking sites.

I take the point about retaining the annonymity of voting - yet another reflection of the wisdom of Mr M. :)

If this website could give someone more than a 10, I'd give it to this font for sure.
