I'd quite agree to your comment pertaining to "o" and a dotless "i". As is, the very variable x-height spoils the legibility. You mixed too many sizes of grids, e.g. 2x4 and 4x5, besides the final matrix is unclear (from too large symbols, which is a waste of grids, hence a profound incoherence in your design).
