I’ll start by further defining the problem.

Scenario A: You’re searching for a shared fontstruction.

Solution A: True, the search function doesn’t work within your private homepage (an unfortunate omission), but you can search in the gallery amongst all fontstructions.

Problem A: The search function is broken.

Unless your search string is truly unique (singularly obscure tags can help), get ready to manually dig through another potentially large and random list. For instance, searching for FS_Minimal thalamic gives the desired and precisely specified fontstruction on page 13. Narrowing the search to the “Display” category (note: not all fontstructions are categorized) slightly improves the correct result to page 4. Still unacceptable.

Solution A: Until an improved search function is implemented (OR Boolean searches) better off using a Google® Search Engine query to quickly locate your published fontstructions.

Scenario B: You’re searching for a private fontstruction.

Problem B: Ok, with your 16 pages of unpublished work plus about 8 more pages of shared fontstructions all mixed in...I can start to see the source of your fontstration.

No googling...err, Google® Search Engine queries can help here. No homepage searching within FontStruct, either! The sort order is based on “most recent edit” (voting and comments used to update this, too...not sure about those anymore) – so if you want to pull up something you haven't touched in a while...first dust off your fine tooth comb.

Workaround B: This trick should be old hat to you, friend ;) Keep only your shared work in thalamic’s homepage – easily searchable using Solution A. Just remember all the correct names (see Bonus Round, below)! Keep all works-in-progress in various other user accounts – as many as necessary to keep things orderly. Quickly clone all your WIPs into these user accounts and treat them like password protected folders (with voting privileges*). If you’re fast, it might not even register on the Live Feed! You can even call them by descriptive usernames like “hot ish”, “big boned”, or “pixel madness” – just watch out when leaving comments ^.^ you might give yourself away.

Just before sharing, clone back to thalamic, delete the private files and go!

Bonus Round: Download all your shared fontstructions, install and organize them using font sets in your free Font Management Application of choice. Presto! Searchable samples that show you just how much your fontstructions need proper metrics and kerning pairs! :-P
