Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 2nd july 2013
@winty5. No! I don't like wide M and W.(comment by Groszak)
Comment by 2012 Collaboration 2nd july 2013
Actually you have to listen to me because this was my original font and I am collab master.
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 2nd july 2013
Guys. The live feed is now trashed. Tone it down.
Comment by demonics 3rd july 2013
opipik: I'm listening to you.(not by Groszak)
Comment by 2012 Collaboration 3rd july 2013
@dm: Well we were kind of the only ones online before
(me, groszak, j4s13, and opipik)
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 3rd july 2013
You guys can stop editing this one now, I like it in its final state.
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 3rd july 2013
Winty5 — I'm just saying this collab thing is taking up way too much space on the live feed regardless of who is participating. All I ask is you publish less frequent comments. Just look at this page: there are 13 consecutive comments by 2012 Collaboration.
Comment by demonics 3rd july 2013
Thats because many people are using this account at the same time. And if you are asking us to quit the collab, we don't want to because we're having fun. We're not trying to annoy you or anyone else, and not very many other people are caring about the live feed right now.
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 3rd july 2013
Yeah, but it don't means you don't care about the live feed as well. Can you please make a rule that reduces the amount of discussion in this font like making maximum amount of editing then making comments per day or anything else?
Comment by cablecomputer 3rd july 2013
@cablecomputer: Ok, i'm on it.
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 3rd july 2013
I don't want you to quit it. The new rule you introduced is great!
Comment by demonics 3rd july 2013
Ok, great :)

1x1 filters.

'and not very many other people are caring about the live feed right now' ... maybe that is because it tends to get monopolised by single issue posts. Currently this happens to be the collaboration; in the recent past it was clogged with countless posts relating to mini fonts.

These single issue threads take up a considerable proportion of the live feed which causes the rest of us to have to scroll through many pages.

Whilst this may not seem like much of a problem to those of us who have access to high-speed broadband, you should remember that not everyone is so fortunate. There are some users who not only do not have high-speed connections, but also live in parts of the world where they experience erratic power supplies.

For those of our fellow FontStructers who are in this position every moment that they can spend online is precious. Having to scroll through page after page of barely relevant comments is hardly likely to encourage them to participate in the Live Feed.

I hope those of you who are involved with the collab will be generous and warm hearted enough to take this message in the spirit in which it is intended.
Comment by p2pnut 4th july 2013
@p2pnut: I don't even have a fast connection. The computer i'm using is an old Mac with medium speed internet.

And did you even read the new rule I put in?
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 4th july 2013
I was refering to people who have really slow connections (even some who still have dial-up). I also made the point that, unlike those of us who are more fortunate, there are some users who do not even receive regular or constant electricity supplies.

I did read your new rule and, whilst it may be an improvement, it still allows for a massive number of posts in total ... i.e. if you have 10 people collaborationg then you could have 100 posts per day on just that topic. That, together with the penchant for a few people to post long (and frequent) samples, could lead to a situation where there are many pages to scroll through.

All I ask for is a little consideration so that everyone can feel included.
Comment by p2pnut 4th july 2013
All of this discussion points back to the usefulness of creating/reviving a dedicated fontstruct forum. At least one has existed in the past. Google “free forum” and you’re already halfway to setting one up. ;)

It may never receive official support (moderation is a time-intensive activity). Still, anyone getting serious about collaborative fontstructing involving more than two people will be very well served by a proper forum. Conversation threads, as just one example, are quite essential for organizing discussions and keeping things clear – especially if multiple fontjams are happening concurrently.

You could name your forum: FontStructables...

Guys calm down, the collab was shut down already!
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 4th july 2013
Rather than put a damper on your collaborations, my suggestion of starting an unofficial fontstruct forum is meant to encourage them. This is regardless of any controversy around excessive posting affecting the live feed. I don’t necessarily see that you were misusing it, just that a dedicated forum would be a much better fit for a multi-user, multi-project changelog.
Comment by William Leverette (will.i.ૐ) 5th july 2013
will — you know we have an unofficial forum, right?
Comment by demonics 5th july 2013
I seem to remember suggesting a forum four years ago - to my knowledge nothing substantial has ever come of this.

@demonics: is this unoficial forum restricted in some way? - I certainly haven't seen it advertised.
Comment by p2pnut 5th july 2013
p2pnut — here is the link. It isn't restricted; I made it about six months ago.

Hey guys, I tried to post this earlier, but didn’t get it out before the maintenance cut-off!

@demonics: You’re referring to the forum account? It is a clever idea: using one account to create a collection of fontstructions whose main purpose is discussion threads. It is still a far cry from a fully featured forum. I think collaborations such as these would benefit from: email notification, a category structure to organize threads, thread privacy features, no restrictions on image size, a chronological view of posts by individual category, robust searching features, etc.

All that said, the forum account is a smart and accessible middle ground.
Comment by William Leverette (will.i.ૐ) 5th july 2013
@will: I agree, forums are GREAT! I would have a hard time FS'ing if it weren't for the forum, but I still think FS should have an official forum.
Comment by Noah F. Ross (winty5) 5th july 2013
will — I see your point. A real forum would indeed be nice. I do think the forum account is the best we can do now though. :-)
@forum: I agree!
