What a beauty, what a treasure!
Already in my FAVs.
I wonder how you guys create such professioanl samples!? Is the second sample created using software or did you print and take a photo of it?

Yautja Mon, 5th November, 2012

Beautiful. #/% could be better I think.

p2pnut Mon, 5th November, 2012

So many small characteristics come together to make this a fine design. 10/10

elmoyenique Mon, 5th November, 2012

I'm with the guys, you've made a greeeat font, once again! But, personally, this font is something special for me because I remember a very good days of june at Rome, long long time ago, when I see your first sample... 10/10!

laynecom Mon, 5th November, 2012

Thanks, people. Thank you very much.

@architaraz Yes, I printed the page and took a photo.
@Yautja Thanks, it's actually work in progress. I will look into that.
@p2pnut Yeah, I got a bit carried away on the details :-)
@elmoyenique Speaking of which, I forgot to include the credits for the photo, which I will do soon.

Thanks again for all your super feedback.

Very pretty. I like your use of composites for notching out all the fine details and subtle tricks like “blending” angled and curved bricks as in your A. Tip of the hat to geneus1 for sneakily introducing the technique. Your choice of angle here works even better!

The serif design has a hint of Reina, but with your own distinctly fontstruct twist.

The only improvements I can suggest are to reverse the contrast of V,W,v,w and y for your default glyphs. They are looking backwards to me in mixed- and lowercase setting. It’s funny, though. Perhaps because of the repeating ornamentation they work out in an all caps environment, so I suggest you keep the current set as alternates.

10/10 for a bold and playful design!

thx will.i.ૐ

I think that the angles and curves work even better for the legs of R, K and k. It should, however, be said that we all teach each other techniques to improve the typefaces constantly. I think I'm more of a taker than a giver in this field but maybe some can also benefit from my approaches.

I'm really in favour of a technique that Erik Spiekermann was once talking about in an interview. He said that he often saw typefaces that he liked and then tried to redraw them from memory, thus creating something alike yet unique.

I have never seen Reina before (thanks for pointing this out, it is an exeptionally beautiful typeface). But I often try to do this in FontStruct: redrawing a typeface from memory with the limitations a modular approach brings along.

Concerning the mentioned letters. I will have them mirrored. It's a mistake I always make, but looking at Reina, I fully understand what you mean.

Beautiful and well-polished. 'g' is my favourite (: Again, to echo all the above comments, the tiny details make this font absolutely stunning especially the numerous ink traps. 10/10 +fav!

cablecomputer Tue, 6th November, 2012

Nicely done man, nicely done... Great samples too!
I like the "g" and the ink-traps :) 10/10

And, what's that thing at the "y" tail, or it was intended to be done that way?

Congratulations! FontStruct Staff have deemed your FontStruction worthy of special mention. “Manuale giocoso” is now a Top Pick.

laynecom Thu, 8th November, 2012

thank you very much.

the y is a mixture of intention and limitation :-)

Wow, troll on the loose... Someone just went through all my fonts and gave them a 1. Thanks!

beate Sun, 11th November, 2012

This troll has been at my place tonight as well. This does not encourage me to submit new contributions !
Sorry, but this is like Kindergarten.

When you talk of them publicly like this, Trolls have won! I know it's irritating, i got so many, but we should Not even evoke them, a fortiori publicly, they do not deserve such attention.

p2pnut Sun, 11th November, 2012

laynecan and beate - don't let it get to you guys. We are really quite fortunate that the vast majority of people who use FS are responsible and behave in a mature manner. However, the internet is an open field and there is nothing to stop the kiddies coming in and attacking things they don't understand.

Long ago I stopped looking at Ratings and positions in the Gallery. What matters is (a) that you are satisfied with your work and (b) that it receives valid comments from your fellow font lovers here.

elmoyenique Sun, 11th November, 2012

I'm with p2pnut.

I'm with p2pnut.

laynecom Sun, 11th November, 2012

I'm not letting get it to me. I just mentioned it because I think it's ironic. I appretiate all qualified comments and try to ignore the trolls. Still, we all are eager to get some qualified comments here, aren't we? ;-)

Same thing happened to many of my works. It brought to mind a powerful quote (often attributed to Mother Teresa), The Paradoxical Commandments written by Kent M. Keith:

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

@ Williaum : what a beautiful quote! I didn't know this one, i think i'll come back to it several times. Thanks for sharing. I would complete it with these words (by memory) of the french writer Christian Bobin : No one hears what you say, they're always projecting something else on it. The only thing you can and must do is to be honest to your word...
