The Skipper family is a stone-cold fontstruct classic and I’m really digging that sample.

I tried to dissect the effectiveness of your image. Its somehow possesses an extra-optical quality, beyond the deftly chosen shadow angles and vibrant, minimized palette of complementary and secondary colors.

I identified but could not explain how you came to omit self-shadowing and an intermediate shade for the orange diagonal faces! And I had to try it myself to find out why in this case – and perhaps other similar flat shaded extrusions – less is so much more. I really like how the Rs pop out from the screen, exude an unhazed glow and subtly ‘float’ on top of the ‘page’. All of which is diminished or lost by a more ‘realistic’ approach.

I don’t know what you can learn from these but I’m glad that you liked it. will.i.ૐ Thanks for attesting it as classic :-) Reality is an abstraction on this picture. And if you apply self-shadowing you shouldn’t leave the colors flat. They just cannot be as flat as they are when you adding halftones in shades. But then you’ll get an imitation of reality. Abstraction for me is better. Thanks for meditating on it anyway!

I have just realised what your samples remind me of ... narrowboat art. For those who don't know of them, narrowboats are long (up to 70 feet), narrow (less than 7 feet), boats derived from the commercial carrier boats on the UK canal system. They were always highly decorated and well sign-written.

You are modest, that's fine. You may not be a pro, unless type face design is your main source of income. But your designs are oozing quality. 10 of 11 Top Picks (the one left out is part of a bigger family, already a TP). I'm going to learn how to design a proper cyrillic set. I know the Russian set well enough, but I'm not familiar with the rest (Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian, etc.). Your exemplary works could help me to fill that hiatus.
