Who originally invented this font? I love it!
Thank you for the kind words!
I don't really know who designed this typeface for video game use; the earliest sighting to which I have access is from 1977's ''Dominos'' by Atari, so I can only assume it was designed by Atari.
As I do not have access to every video arcade game ever created, it should be noted that there may be an even earlier example.
Here are some other known versions of this typeface style (from my personal collection):
Yuji Adachi
''Arcade-I'' (1997)
''Arcade-N'' (1997)
Codeman38
''Press Start Regular'' (2001)
Neale Davidson
''Emulator Normal'' (1998/2000)
Jakob Fischer / PizzaDude
''Arcade'' (1998/2000?/2003)
''Arcade 2003'' (2003)
''Arcade Classic'' (1998/2000?/2003)
''Arcade Classic 2003'' (2003)
Freaky Fonts / ck!
''Emulogic'' (2004)
Koen Hachmang
''Arcade Classic'' (1999)
Paul D. Hunt / FontStruct
''Arcade Fever'' (2008)
Ray Larabie
''Joystix'' (1996/1997)
Genshichi Yasui
[character remapping by Codeman38]
''Atari Font Bitmap'' (1999/2000?)
Added a new alternate "W" and a new alternate "Y", after a WHOLE lot of character shifting to make room. :^P
